Floyd worked on the family dairy farm and was active in 4-H and was a member of FFA at Reitz High School, where he graduated in 1948.
He showed jersey cows at the county and state fairs and won many awards. Floyd was chairman of the Dairy Show for several years.
Floyd served in the Army at the Panama Canal Zone during the Korean War, and played the trumpet in the Army band.
Floyd loved to work with kids. He coached both baseball and basketball, and was the commissioner for the North Side Junior Football League. He refereed high school basketball for 15 years.
Floyd received the rural-urban Agricultural Award for Vanderburgh County and the Evansville Tri-State Area. Floyd was a past president of the 4-H Center Board and a lifetime member. He was also a lifetime member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was instrumental in the building of the new Blue Grass Community Center in 1994.
Floyd played taps for Memorial Day at Blue Grass Cemetery for over 50 years. He was also in charge of Saturday recreation at the old Blue Grass Community House for many years.
Floyd retired from the USDA after 35 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting and academic activities, as well as working in the family garden.
